5 Ways to Show Your Favorite Person Love on Valentine's Day

To be honest, Valentine’s Day has never been a huge thing for me. I have really sweet memories of my Mom making Valentine’s Day special for us kids. She would get candy or put food coloring in our hot cereal to make it pink. And there were a few times that my Dad would bring flowers for us to school. But as someone who didn’t date much in high school, didn’t have a boyfriend until I was almost 22, and was in a long-distance relationship with this boyfriend, and then married my one and only boyfriend I’d ever had…it wasn’t really a big deal. I think my boyfriend and I only had one Valentine’s Day before getting married and we were in two different countries, separated by COVID restrictions, and didn’t do a whole lot to celebrate…because how could we?

So anyway, my view of Valentine’s Day has always been kinda…eh. Like a cool idea. A good day to celebrate your significant other. But not a huge deal. But I love the way Valentine’s Day has been reframed recently, at least that I’ve seen. Galentine’s Day. T-shirts and stickers and…I just feel like we’re veering away from this strict romantic love view of Valentine’s Day. So I thought I’d put together some gifts that are good for the important people in your life.

1. Cards

Cards are an obvious one. But you can find some really cool cards that are a little less romantic.

2. Flowers

Flowers! You know what I learned recently? Guys want flowers, too! My husband has talked about this a lot. He’s like “I’d love to get flowers.” So if you’re trying to figure out what to get your boyfriend or fiance or husband, maybe consider flowers.

3. Snacks

Food! A perfect way to someone’s heart is through snacks. And that might be chocolate or candy or chips or…a three course meal!

4. Socks

As I’ve gotten older, I have fallen more and more in love with the feeling of a brand new pair of socks. This is a random thing, but it could be other things, too! Things out of the ordinary for Valentine’s Day - t-shirts, sweatshirts, pajama plants, etc.

5. Time

This is a big one. It’s so important for a lot of people. Uninterrupted attention on you. That sounds amazing. Whether this is just a drive, a nice meal, a movie, spend time with your people.

If you’re like me and have always been kinda meh about Valentine’s Day, maybe look at it differently!
